From Redesign to Recognition: How We Elevated ‘Steel Matters’

As part of our ongoing collaboration with British Steel, we were tasked to revitalise their internal publication – Steel Matters. We completely revamped the publication’s style and format, focusing on creating a platform that would resonate deeply with employees across British Steel’s vast network of 21 locations in the UK and Europe. This meant crafting content that was not only informative but also engaging and relevant to their daily lives.

We are incredibly proud that our partnership with British Steel culminated in a phenomenal win at the CIPR Excellence Awards (2017) and ‘Steel Matters’ took home the prestigious title of Best Internal Publication! This win is a testament to the incredible impact this refreshed publication has had. 

This recognition also underlines the publication’s success as a key driver in solidifying the new British Steel brand identity and fostering a more engaged workforce. The judges believed Steel Matters was a great example of how an internal publication has driven cultural change and delivered a step change in people’s pride and commitment. They were particularly impressed that internal and external communication activities worked together to support business objectives and improve reputation.

‘Steel Matters’ is now a cornerstone of British Steel’s internal communications strategy, effectively amplifying the message of the new brand and fostering a stronger sense of community and purpose among employees. And we couldn’t be prouder of the results and the positive impact this project had had on British Steel’s internal culture!
