Business Manager

We are seeking a highly organised and proactive Business Manager to oversee and coordinate a wide range of operational, compliance, administrative and support functions across our organisation. This multifaceted role plays a crucial part in ensuring the smooth running of our premises, systems, staff processes and accreditations, while also supporting key aspects of procurement, sustainability, certification and corporate engagement.

Primary responsibilities:

Health, Safety & Compliance
  • Support risk assessments and Health & Safety compliance across the business.
  • Support fire alarm systems, fire marshals, and emergency procedures.
  • Maintain and develop documentation and compliance for ISO 9001, ISO 14001, FSC, B Corp, and Carbon Neutral certification processes.
Procurement & Supplies
  • Oversee day-to-day procurement of business essentials (Sundries etc).
  • Support the management of suppliers and contracts
  • Facilities, Premises & Site Operations
  • Coordinate staff communications, including weekly updates and internal newsletters.
  • Oversee building and grounds maintenance, including repairs, improvements and landscaping.
  • Manage and coordinate of security systems, alarms and cleaning services.
  • Maintain the roof asbestos register and liaise with contractors for site inspections and air conditioning servicing.
Utilities & Contracts
  • Renew and manage contracts for gas, electricity, broadband, telephone (landline and mobile).
  • Liaise with water services and manage general waste disposal contracts.
HR Administration
  • Support HR administration.
  • Coordinate and support staff one-to-ones, update training records, and oversee the training programme.
  • Support recruitment, work experience placements, and policy updates.
  • Support onboarding / Induction for new employees.
Fleet & Vehicles
  • Manage the company vehicle fleet, including MOTs, servicing, insurance, and road tax. Admin for producing annual P11D’s.
Additional Duties (as required)
  • Act as internal IT contact for third-party provider.
  • Support with MIS system.
  • Maintain warehouse and stock control systems.
  • Support with grant and award applications.
  • Support and administration for tenders.
  • Assist with customer rebates.
  • Support the complaints process.
  • Support supplier review schedules.
  • Support plant maintenance including PAT testing, forklift servicing, and electrical inspections.
  • Co-ordinate staff events (e.g., BBQs, volunteering schedules, team building).
  • Assist with client visits, open days, and off-site meetings.
  • Liaise with postal operators and manage postal services.
  • Administer the Ruddocks website, including domain and hosting management.
  • Review staff holidays and expense claims.
  • Assist with sales reporting.
  • Client facing ad hoc project management.

Skills, attitudes and experience

  • Desired experience in business or operations management, facilities, HR, or compliance.
  • Strong organisational skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication and coordination skills across departments.
  • Familiarity with ISO and environmental certification standards.
  • Confidence managing external suppliers and internal reporting systems.
  • Proficiency with admin software, HR platforms, and Office Suite (Excel, Word, etc.).
  • Ability to multitask and manage varied responsibilities simultaneously.
  • Negotiation experience, comfortable dealing with varying levels of seniority.
  • Proactive approach and can-do attitude.

Details

The job will be a salaried position, based on the below.

  • 37.5 hour week
  • We operate a 9-day working fortnight pattern which is optional.
  • 26 days holiday per year (half a day per week worked) + Bank Holidays
